The Longest Thirty Minutes Of My Life_Part 1

[ This happened on June 6th]

My mom took the wheel while I sat in the back seat thinking that this would be an ordinary drive, well it just wasn't.
We picked him(my puppy, we had just got him a few days back) from CUPA( govt veterinary hospital). I expected CUPA to be loving & warm but instead it was cold & scary with sick animals lying everywhere. I had never seen this sick & ugly filled with pain & suffering. A man led us to a small treatment room, it was dingy, dirty, cold, smelly & ugly. The walls were white in colour but looked grayish, the flooring was stained, there were many medical instruments which were very dirty. That man told us that Tenzing (my puppy, Shih tzu breed) was in that room & showed us a small cage, it was locked, he opened it & left. I was finally seeing him after a day, I expected him to be sick, but I didn't ever imagine in my wildest dreams that he would be so sick.
One look into his eyes, was all I needed to know the pain he was going through. His eyes otherwise brown in colour portrayed the pain of separation, loneliness & suffering & doubt if he would survive or not. Oh! how could I ever forget the way he whined, it is something which will  always stay with me.
The duty doctor Dr Joseph(name changed to protect privacy) came & checked him, he spoke very casually & told us that 'she' might have parvo. That minute we knew we couldn't allow him to die here. This so called doctor didn't even realise that it was a dog & not a bitch. I told my mom to discharge him & while she did that I asked them to clean him up & I let him rest on fresh newspaper which I had laid on the back seat of the car. Even though they tried to keep him well hydrated he was completely dehydrated. We had to go to another hospital really quickly to save him.
We put loads of newspaper in the back seat & my mom had to drive as fast as she could while my job was to hold him firmly so that he doesn't fall down. My work sounded quite simple, I just had to hold him. As the car started moving, Tenzing started whining a lot. In the beginning, I thought it was because I was holding him the wrong way but later I realised it was because of the pain which he was going through. I was just comforting him. After sometime, he started breathing rapidly as if he was taking his last breath.
At that moment I felt like he was clinging on to me, helpless and desperate gasping for breath, fighting for the right to live, which we don't hesitate to give away.
